Semi-welded plate heat exchangers
Pairs of plates form welded cassettes, with gasketed channels between them. This combines a welded side with access to the gasketed side; it is not the same as a fully gasketed or fully welded unit.
Grey lines are separating plates. The dashed arrow shows heat transfer through a plate.
Semi-welded heat exchanger components
The pack is assembled from welded cassettes with gasketed spaces between them. A frame supports and compresses the assembly. Port seals remain part of the sealing system.
Welded plate cassettes
A pair of plates encloses a welded passage. The cassette is identified as an assembly.
Field gaskets
Seal the heat-transfer field between adjacent cassettes.
Port ring seals
Seal the relevant port interfaces; their compound can differ from that of the field gasket.
Fixed frame plate and pressure plate
Retain the compressed cassette pack. The pressure plate moves for servicing.
Carrying bar, guiding bar and supports
Support and position the cassettes. The support column and roller depend on the frame execution.
Tie bolts and hardware
Compress the pack to its specified assembly dimension.
Connections and their seals
Connect each circuit to the specified ports and piping interfaces.
Welded channels and gasketed channels
Welded plate pairs form cassettes; the channels between them use gaskets. The service methods differ on the two sides. Identify which fluid is in the welded channel and check the port seals as well as the main gaskets.
Cassette gaskets and port seals
A field gasket seals the accessible side between cassettes; a ring gasket seals the relevant port interface. The two seals can face different media and require different compounds. The exact arrangement comes from the cassette and equipment specification.
Opening and cassette replacement
Opening the frame exposes the gasketed spaces between the cassettes. It does not split the welded channels inside the cassettes. Retain the cassette sequence and identify field gaskets and ring seals separately when preparing replacement parts.
Refrigeration selection
Give the refrigerant, evaporation or condensation conditions, secondary-fluid composition and allowable losses on each side. Include operating and design conditions. The engineer must confirm the cassette, port-seal and gasket materials for that combination.
Equipment catalogue
Equipment specifications are compared after the duty, materials, connections and service requirements have been defined.
