Wastewater pumps

Wastewater selection starts with the liquid and its solids. Hydraulic passage, clogging resistance and the complete station duty must be considered together.

Solids and fibres

Record solids size, concentration, hardness and fibrous content. Free passage is a geometric size, not a guarantee that rags or long fibres cannot clog the pump. Abrasion and chemical compatibility require separate material checks.

Impeller and cutting system

Channel, free-flow and cutting arrangements handle solids differently. A cutter is a specific mechanism, not an assumed property of every sewage pump. Compare its suitability for the waste stream, required head and access for clearing or replacement.

Wastewater pumps: submerged or dry installation

Wastewater pumps may be submerged or installed in a separate dry space. Specify the permitted motor cooling mode, liquid levels, seals and monitoring. An installation change can require a different configuration even when the hydraulic model is similar.

Station duty and availability

Define inflow variation, useful wet-well volume, starting frequency, duty/standby logic, alarms and discharge-pipe requirements. Compare the actual combined pump and system curves. More installed pumps do not by themselves establish the available capacity.
